How Can I Make Learning Part of my child’s Everyday Play?
Make it easy and accessible!! Learning through play does not have to be complicated. The more complex... The less likely you are to do it!
1. Easy Ways to incorporate Creative Learning:

Outdoor Math Games – Use sidewalk chalk to make number lines or play hopscotch with math problems
Reading Challenges – Take your child to the Library or bookstore so you can let them pick out books of their own interest! Don’t worry about reading levels this summer, focus on getting reading materials into their hands. Then create a summer reading bingo or let kids read in fun places (outside, in a fort, under the stars).
2. Hands-On Activities
Summer-Themed Learning Activities – Create exciting weekly themes like oceans, zoo animals, or dinosaurs with crafts, books, math, and ELAR activities. Check out Pinterest, Purposeful Play, Teachers Pay Teachers, or Morgan’s Home Learning for ideas on how to make this easy and doable!

Themed Lessons will be avalible May 2nd!! Cooking & Measuring – Let kids read recipes, measure ingredients, and explore fractions while making snacks.
Fine Motor Building – Challenge kids to build structures with LEGOs, boxes, or magnetic tiles. Take it further by timing them or giving them a “building goal”. Such as, “Build a house with a car ramp.”
3. Field Trips & Adventures
Visit Zoos, Wild Bluff, Discovery Center, Brush with Art, or the Panhandle Plains Museum
Library/ Story Bridge– Check for summer reading clubs, story times, or STEM activities.
Scavenger Hunts – I love creating Scavenger hunts for play groups! A scavenger hunt can be an added learning activity to any normal play activity or field trip. It adds problem solving and exploration to even just going outside!
4. Keep a Summer Journal
First, go to Hobby Lobby and let your kids pick out their own journals, stickers, craft paper, etc. This will get them excited about their Summer Journal! Then have kids write or draw about their Summer days, vacations, or favorite summer moments. Add nature sketches, fun facts, photos, or ticket stubs from places visited.
5. Game-Based Learning
Board Games & Puzzles – My kids love “sensory bin” Puzzles. I will take a puzzle and put the pieces into a tray of beans. This adds an extra step!
Card Games – Uno, Go Fish, Crazy 8's, or memory-matching games help with numbers and critical thinking. I love adding math facts, number sense, or any grade level objective to memory games!
My Favorite Games and “At Home Learning” Supplies:
Zingo, Large Cards (Memory, Crazy 8's, Go Fish), Flash (Dice), Dominoes

Pom Poms, Dobbers, Stickers, Tissue Paper, Glue Sticks, Paint and Paint Brush, Chalk, clip board, dry erase markers, erasers, blocks, playdoh
**Print all these ideas out and make a Summer "Check List"!!
