Lunch Time Activities

Being a mother of toddlers, I strongly dislike preparing lunch at home. It seems that lunchtime is when my kids have had enough of each other, enough of being at home, and are just ready for a change of scenery. Often times this results in too much fast food and a later than ideal nap time, but sometimes that's easier than preparing a lunch that, most likely, doesn't get eaten while kids fight in the background.
However, as my kids get older and I am "practicing" learning at home, I feel like this brief lunch time may be the perfect time for an independent learning activity. This 11-12:30 break in the day is a great time for kids of all ages to "play" with learning.
Today, my three-year-old played the "Roll a Gingerbread" activity. While she is still too young to fully understand rolling a dice and matching the numbers, she managed to enjoy a simplified version of the game. She worked at the table independently while I prepared hot dogs with mac and cheese. There was no screen time or sibling fighting during this "dreaded" lunch time hour! The key to making this activity easy was having everything conveniently stored in a box for easy access. Zoey brought me the box, and all I had to do was open it and set up the materials for her to play. After that she was good to go and played for about 10-15 minutes with a little guidance from me.

These activities and learning time is exactly what I want to bring to your family's table. With Morgan's Home Learning, you are able to receive these activities straight to your door. You do not have to worry about preparing the materials your self or figuring out how to set up each lesson. Everything you need is packed inside your monthly learning kit and can be easily stored in a drawer for lunch time learning.
As a teacher, I loved creating opportunities where students could learn while also having fun. "Roll a Gingerbread" is such a fun and easy hands on activity that your student can do for 10 minutes while you prepare lunch or an after school snack. "Roll a Gingerbread" can be purchased in our December learning kit. Each grade level includes this lesson plan and materials, but depending on the grade level you order, you may be subitizing, adding, or subtracting! I can't wait for you to try it out.
If you want to try out this activity, but already have the materials, download the Kinder lesson below and try it out!
